From Constance Flavell Pratt, in the November 1987 issue of The Artist's Magazine: To ensure your portraits are strong paintings, follow these five steps:
- make your model comfortable
- keep your materials within easy reach
- control the light
- plan your painting from the beginning
- and check and recheck the likeness.
